Week 20 - Studies & illustration

Hay so another week has gone by and I am pretty happy with this weeks progress. I have got a lot of studies in this week done and also have finished a few illustrations all for an exciting reason.

So here is the break down for this week.

Study 1 - Photo studies
So this week I have worked through to starting the 3rd of the sketches. It's impressive because I haven't even managed to do that for some number of weeks now. It also means that I am in fact picking up pace now with the drawing so have a look at this weeks work.

Study 2 - colour/Light

Another hour in and she has hair!! Well some hair. I wish I could spend some more hours on this per week but unfortunately I just don't have time to spare on this. I can't wait to see it finished it will be one exciting moment.

Study 3 - Life drawing

This week has being an exciting week for me when it comes to life drawing. A very talented friend of mine suggested to me to try a different technique when it comes to some of my drawing. To get more of a sense of motion with my work. So I looked for a tutorial for gestural drawing and I watched these two videos about it.

Now my drawing feels more invigorated then ever. I don't know how I lived without it. I love the moment when you discover something. Here are the results. Again sorry about having to use pictures instead of scanning I promise you I will have a new scanner set up soon straight after Christmas.

My general technique

Gestural

The point of drawing gestural is to get more a feel of the motion and less about the details. Then as you develop within the technique you get more and more efficient at doing the detail. making a more emotive drawing.

Study 4 -  Animal Study

So I have started on a new animal. Oh how exciting. I love animals so much. I think I have a little bit too much love for them. As before I am starting of with a digital painting. This one it going to be a little bit more difficult then before since I am dealing with more than one kind of texture. Have a look an guess what it might be. I don't think it will take a lot for you to guess who this big guy is going to be.

Study 5 - Animation

Not a lot of progression to show on this one but will keep the people updated when I make some firm progress.

Study 6 - Anatomy

More and more feet I draw.

  Study 7 - Facial expressions

Okay So I did a couple more sheets of this lady. I swear I am going to be finished with her facial expressions next week. Then I will happily move on to a bunch more people. So here is this weeks lot.

Study 8 - Humans in Action 

Okay I also have done a bunch more of the humans in action. It might take me a while to get to 50 but I can't wait to see when I have gotten there the progress I have made. 

Okay next thing to talk about I finally managed when I was doing some concept art to finish another illustration so here it is. Its called white Christmas.

Week 19 - More studies

Phew this week has being a busy week for me. I have done lots of work unfortunately I won't be able to show you the heap of concept work I have done this week because its all apart of the animation I am working on but I am finally able to say its well on its way to being designed. It has only being a few months in the making so I could get my skill level up to do the design. I have actually shocked myself at the amount of improvement in my work in such a short period of time. The only problem now is the fact that now I am running out of sketch books because I am chewing through them like mad. I have already nearly finished one of them off in two weeks worth of work.

Now onto my studies this week because it wouldn't be my week unless I had done the studies. I am going to be a little bit glad to have some time off over Christmas after the way I have being working.

Study 1 - Photo study
Well on my way to working on drawing number 12. She should be finished off by next week. Just ignore her weird eyebrows a really weird design on the costumers part. Somehow I also like the fact that they aren't typical though. It adds a bit of character to her I think.

Study 2 - Colour light study

A little bit more progress on this one this week, I have done some more working to the face but  now I am working on the hair now. I thought I would work on it try to tackle the part that I don't like and have no experience with. Might as well face the problem head on.

Study 3 - Life drawing

More relaxing life drawing. :)

Study 4 - Animal study

Finished this study now to work on my next animal. Can't wait this has being a lot of fun to work on. I even couldn't help but put a couple of extra hours in this week to finish it off.

Study 5 - Animation

So I have started to block in the animation now. Here is a sneaky shot of a half finished key frame. Oh yeah start getting excited.

Study 6 - Anatomy

Study 7 - Facial Expressions

An extension on last weeks work with facial expression task I did. Mow have heaps more.

Study 8 - Humans in action 

I have also got more humans in action done this week. I want to concentrate on blocking in people to get a better idea of things like perspective. So I have heaps more of these to work on before I can work on the next refinement stage.

Week 18 - Studies

So another week of studies has gone by for me and I have now added a couple more to the list. It never stops the work load that I need to work on and it doesn't help that things keep getting in the way of me working.  Okay so here is the breakdown for the week.

Study 1 - Photo study

Finished number 11. Huzzzaaahhh. Now to move onto the next one next week.

Study 2 - Colour-Light study

Started working on the shadow of this one and trying to get the tones in the skin. This one is slowly developing. The fun bit is going to be working on that hair.

Study 3 - Life drawing

Another week another two models down. My Sketch book is getting a little full now. Hopefully also next week I can have my new printer and scanner rigged up and so I don't have to take bad photos of my work to be able to display it and I can actually scan it.

Study 4 - Animal studies

I have decided to move on from doing my digital painting and work on doing the little sketches and the skeletal structure now. I have spent too much time on the digital painting. I am going to re-do this drawing again because it was a absolute failure or at the lest have to re-work what is there he is a little bit to cute and not enough real frog.

Study 5 - Animation

Well I haven't started blocking in the animation yet. What I have done is started to build the main prop for most of the actions and chosen a rig to work with. I shall be finishing off the prop next week and then hopefully starting to block in some animation.

Study 6 - Anatomy Study

This is a new one to focus on. This one here is specifically so I can work on some aspects of anatomy that I feel I need some improvement on. This first session I spent mostly looking for some good refs but I have in fact started one of them. The first session for me is feet because I always get stuck on them I thought it would be a good place to start.

Study 7 - Facial Expression

This here is to focus on drawing people's facial expressions. This is to develop the ability to bring more character out in my drawing but also to convey more expression through them.

Study 8 - Humans in action

I am unsure what to really dub the technique but I figured that I would just call it humans in action. This technique I was taught in tafe a very long time ago. The object of it is to take a picture and break it down into blocks. Then you do about 50 of them and then pick your top 25 to refine. From that you then do your top 10 to refine again and then your top 5 you do a final of. It's a little more of a designer formula then what I have being working on but this will help me with anatomy a lot more. So here is my start.

Okay well next week I should be heading back onto project work as well so I possibly will have a 3D update for you. I have to do a little arranging of the old schedule of mine to prioritise some things so I can get certain things done and make way for the extra hours but other than that life should be fun.
